CINCINNATI
– University of Cincinnati women's basketball unofficially began the 2017-18 season with a lopsided, 77-35, victory over the Findlay Oilers on Thursday night at Cincinnati State.

The Bearcats were in control from the jump with a 9-0 run to start the game and a 40-16 halftime lead. UC stayed in command in the second half, increasing its lead to 30 points in the third quarter and a game-high 42 points before the final horn. UC suffocated UF with pressure defense resulting in the Oilers shooting just 24 percent from the field and turning the ball over 23 times as the Bearcats cruised to victory.

The Red & Black had three double-figure scorers on the night, paced by junior guard Nikira Goings' (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) 16 points including 4-of-4 from three-point range. Senior guard Ana Owens (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) added 13 points and a game-high seven assists. Sophomore guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) tallied 11 points and a game-best four steals. Freshman Iimar'i Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) nearly posted a double-double in her first collegiate game with a game-high 11 rebounds and nine points.

UC dominated the game in basically every statistical category with 47 percent shooting from the field, 12-of-15 from the free throw line, 40 points in the paint, 31 bench points, 20 points off of the Oilers' miscues, and 10 second-chance points. The Bearcats also got out on the fast break for 12 points and knocked down five three pointers.
