Carly Nolan had a career-high 26 kills and Elly Ogle had a career-high 22 digs

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati volleyball battled hard but lost in five sets to USF on Sunday afternoon, despite strong individual performances. The Bearcats dropped the first set 25-20 before taking the next two by scores of 25-21 and 25-12, respectively. USF grabbed set three 26-24 before winning in a 15-12 final set.

• Cincinnati falls to 10-16 on the season and 8-6 in conference play
• USF improves to 10-14 overall and 5-9 in conference
Carly Nolan had a career-high 26 kills while hitting just under .300 with a .296 attack percentage on 71 attempts. She added another double-double to her season total with 14 digs
Elly Ogle also had a career-night as she had 22 digs, bypassing her previous best of 18. Ogle also had five blocks, a team high
Jade Tingelhoff recorded a double-double with a team-high 54 assists and 13 digs
Abby Williams led the team in digs with 19
Erica Kostelac finished with 13 kills while Maya Eller ended the day with 15 digs

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: USF, 25-20

• A Carly Nolan kill opened the match and the Bearcats started out with a 4-2 advantage. The Bulls worked back and took a small lead before a kill by Elly Ogle evened the set at 7-7. Down 13-9, back-to-back kills by Ogle put the UC deficit at two. A big kill from Maya Muldrow tied it again, this time at 17. USF broke the tie and led by two but back-to-back kills again, this time by Erica Kostelac, knotted it up at 19 each. The Bulls scored three-straight to take the lead back at that point before scoring three more in a row to end the set in their favor.

Set 2: UC, 25-21
• UC found itself down to start set two but would not relent. A 3-0 run while down 8-4 made it an 8-7 match. Three kills, by Jasmine Jones, Nolan and Kostelac, kept the Bearcats in it. UC would not allow USF to get too far ahead, then stormed in front to take the set lead. A Muldrow kill tied the set at 17 then kills from Jade Tingelhoff and Nolan put the Bearcats up 19-17. The Bulls scored the next point, but two more Bearcats kills, this time by Muldrow and Nolan, kept UC ahead. A service error ended the set and tied the match at one apiece.

Set 3: UC, 25-12
• The Bulls got out to a 3-1 lead but the Bearcats came right back with a dominate nine-straight points. The run started with a kill by Nolan and was followed with two blocks by Jones and Ogle. Tingelhoff's ace made it 7-4. The set-lead grew to 10-4 on kills by Nolan and Ogle. UC did not stop there as the strung together a 5-0 run later on with two kills by Nolan, two from Jones and an attack error. That scoring spree put the UC lead at 20-10. The Bearcats would close it out on a Jones kill, two attack errors, a Nolan kill and a USF service error.

Set 4: USF, 26-24
• Back-to-back blocks by the duo of Ogle and Muldrow tied the fourth set at five then put the Bearcats ahead by one. USF got in front 12-10 out of a ten-all tie, causing a UC timeout. The Bulls would stay in front but the Bearcats kept the pressure on. A Nolan kill made it 20-19 and an Ogle kill made it 22-21, causing a USF timeout. An attack error and a ball handling error by the Bulls tie the set at 23 and 24, respectively, but the Bearcats weren't able to pull ahead. Two Bearcats errors gave USF its last two points of the set.

Set 5: USF, 15-12
• The final set started when Nolan matched her career-high with her 24th kill of the night. Chrysanthi Stamatiou followed with an ace for an early two-point advantage. Tied at five, a kill by Kostelac put the Bearcats up. However, the Bulls posted a block to bring the set back to a 7-7 tie. The exciting set would become tied again at nine, ten, 11 and 12 before a 3-0 run gave USF the set and the match win.

// NEXT MATCH
UC remains home in back-to-back weekends for the first time this season. The Bearcats will host Memphis on Friday, November 10 at 3 p.m. then Wichita State on Sunday, November 12 at noon. Sunday's match will be senior day with a ceremony held post-match.
