Swimming and Diving Faces Tough Competition on ThursdaySwimming and Diving Faces Tough Competition on Thursday
Cincinnati swimming and diving is back in action this Thursday, November 9 in Bloomington, Indiana. UC will compete against host Indiana and Notre Dame. Both the men's and women's teams for both programs are ranked in nationally.

// LAST TIME OUT
• The Bearcats are coming off a team sweep of IUPUI this past Saturday at the Keating Aquatic Center
• The men won 186.5-108.5 while the women won 213-82
• UC swept 13 events: women's 1,000 freestyle, men's 1,000 freestyle, women's 200 freestyle, women's 100 backstroke, women's 100 breaststroke, women's 200 butterfly, men's 200 butterfly, women's 50 freestyle, women's 100 freestyle, women's 200 backstroke, women's 200 breaststroke, women's 500 freestyle and the women's 100 butterfly
Lindsey Niehaus won two individual events while also swimming the first leg of UC's first-place finish in the 200 medley relay
Din Selmanovic also posted two individual wins on the day
Mitch Godar won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions
Tricia Roscoe placed first in 3-meter diving
• Both Godar and Roscoe were named Diver of the Week by the American Athletic Conference for their performance

// ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Indiana

• The Hoosier men currently rank first and the women tied for seventh in the CSCAA Coaches poll while ranking fourth and 17th, respectively, in the current collegeswimming.com dual team rankings
• Indiana's men's team took down No. 4 Florida 242-187 and No. 2 Texas 264-165 in a double dual meet to start the season
• They then beat No. 15 Tennessee (165-135) before beating Kentucky (223-84) most recently
• The Hoosier women dropped a 200.5-226.5 meet to No. 3 Texas while beating No. 18 Florida, 251-178, to open the year
• Indiana then beat No. 15 Kentucky 157-143 but fell 159-141 against No. 12 Tennessee
• Last season the Bearcats lost at Indiana with the men losing by a score of 195-102 and the women 187-106
Notre Dame
• The Fighting Irish men are ranked 14th in both national polls this week while the women rank tenth in the CSCAA poll and 16th according to collegeswimming.com
• Notre Dame men opened the season finishing second out of four teams at the Dennis Stark Relays
• The Irish men beat Louisville, Michigan State, Georgia Tech and Purdue this season while suffering a loss against Texas A&M
• The Fighting Irish women finished second out of five teams in the season-opening Dennis Stark Relays and posted the same results as the men against the season's other opponents


// CONFERENCE RANKINGS
• After this past weekend, the Bearcat men remain atop the conference and the women are fourth in the standings according to collegeswimming.com
• UC holds some of the top times in the conference
Dominic Polling's op time in the 100 freestyle ranks third
• The Bearcats hold the top two times in the men's 200 freestyle, as Din Selmanovic leads and Justin Crew is in second
• UC men hold the top three times in the 500 freestyle. Selmanovic is atop the list followed by Chris Bready and Toby Van Dyke
• The same can be said in the 1,000 freestyle as Bready has posted the fastest time followed by teammates Selmanovic and Van Dyke
Zach Hostoffer has the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke in the conference while Polling's best time is good for third-fastest
• Van Dyke is second in the 200 butterfly while George Epsly ranks third
• Polling holds the best finish in the 200 IM
Mitch Godar and Louis Hunt sit one and three in 1-meter diving
• On the women's side, Katherine Gob is tied for the second-best time in the 50 freestyle this season and also ranks second in 100 freestyle
Sara Wanasek's best 1,000 freestyle time this season is good for second in the conference
Kennedy Herbert has the second-best time in the 100 breaststroke
Katie Qualls ranks third with her best 200 butterfly time


// LOOKING AHEAD
• After Bloomington, the swimmers return home while the divers hit the road for the weekend of Nov. 17-19
• UC will host the Bearcat Midseason Invitational starting on Thursday, November 16
• Divers will travel to the Missouri Diving Invitational the same three days
