CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball continued its strong play at home on Thursday when it blasted the Howard Bison, 87-53, at Saint Ursula Academy Gymnasium & Convocation Center (SUA).

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball continued its strong play at home on Thursday when it blasted the Howard Bison, 87-53, at Saint Ursula Academy Gymnasium & Convocation Center (SUA).
 
With the win, UC moved to 7-4 on the season including 6-2 at home. Meanwhile, HU had its three-game win streak snapped and dropped to 3-6 on the year.  
 
The Red & Black set the tone early with an 8-0 run in the opening quarter to take a 22-14 lead into the second. The Bearcats held the Bison scoreless for three minutes in the following period to take a 47-25 advantage into the halftime break. UC streaked through the third quarter with an 18-6 run over much of the stanza to up its lead to more than 30 points. The Red & Black's efficient offense and stifling defense continued in the final quarter, outscoring the opposition, 21-13, and increasing its lead to as many as 39 points with 90 seconds to go.
 
Junior guard Nikira Goings (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) was on fire from the field with a game-best and career-high 25 points. She also had a career night from beyond the 3-point arc with seven made triples, the second most in a game in program history. Freshman forward Iimar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) was impressive in the post with a season-high-tying 19 points as well as a season-best 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) continued her strong play with 11 points and three steals.
 
UC was dominant in the paint with 34 points and had its reserves contribute with 30 bench points. The Bearcats turned the Bison over 17 times, resulting in 18 points. The Red & Black also spread the ball around with a season-high 25 assists on 28 made field goals. UC knocked down 10-of-20 from downtown and buried 21 free throws.
