PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball freshman forward Iimar'i Thomas has been picked as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) earned the distinction after averaging a double-double of 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds -- as well as a 72% field-goal percentage -- last week as the Bearcats went 1-1.

In an 87-53 home win over Howard on Thursday, the freshman was impressive in the post with a season-high-tying 19 points as well as a season-best 11 rebounds. Following, the forward scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in just 22 minutes of play off the bench in an 87-76 home loss to No. 13 Ohio State on Sunday.

On the season, the 17-year-old is averaging 12.5 points and a team-best 6.6 rebounds in just 22.3 minutes per game in a reserve role. She is pacing the league in field-goal percentage at 62.1% and is 18th in The American in scoring and 17th in rebounding per game. The California native has two double-doubles on the year.
