CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball finished strong, outscoring the visiting Bowling Green Falcons 27-8 in the fourth quarter to coast to a 75-51 victory on Thursday night at Saint Ursula Academy's Gymnasium & Convocation Center.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball finished strong, outscoring the visiting Bowling Green Falcons 27-8 in the fourth quarter to coast to a 75-51 victory on Thursday night at Saint Ursula Academy's Gymnasium & Convocation Center.
 
Winning its final nonconference game of the season, UC improved to 8-5 overall including 7-3 at home. Meanwhile, the Falcons fell to 8-3 on the year.
 
With a holiday break looming for both teams, competition was tightly contested in the first half with the Red & Black edging BGSU 16-12 in the opening quarter. Competitive play continued in the second with UC taking a 31-26 advantage into the halftime break. The two squads were neck and neck in the third period, playing to a 17-17 tie. Holding a 48-43 lead heading into the final quarter, the Bearcats started fast and never looked back The Red & Black buried three 3-pointers in the opening two minutes of the period which sparked a 15-3 run over six minutes to take control of the game, 66-46, with 3:11 remaining. UC stayed solid down the stretch, resulting in a 75-51 victory.
 
Junior guard Nikira Goings (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) continued her hot shooting with a game-high 24 points including six trifectas. Sophomore guard Sam Rodgers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East) put together a solid stat line with 11 points, a career high and team-high-tying seven rebounds, as well as a career-best-tying three triples. Additional Bearcats stuffed the stat sheet with senior forward Shanice Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara/Monroe CC) tallying nine points, six assists, five rebounds, and three blocks, while sophomore forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) totaled eight points, five rebounds, and a career-high four blocks. Senior guard Ana Owens (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) also had an all-around performance with nine assists, seven rebounds, five points, and two steals.
 
UC was efficient from the field at 52.6% shooting including a season-high 11 3-pointers. The Bearcats held a 37-31 edge on the glass and got 18 points from their bench. Of the Red & Black's 30 made field goals, 22 were assisted on. In addition, UC scored 15 points off of 14 Falcons turnovers and limited BGSU to 31.1% shooting. The home team also blocked a season-high nine shots.

The Bearcats will have more than a week off from competition over the holiday break before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 30 at East Carolina for a 5 p.m. tipoff to begin American Athletic Conference play.
