CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's golf program continues to grow with the construction of a new outdoor practice facility at Coldstream Country Club. The privately funded project is scheduled for completion in Spring 2018.

Ground was broken in mid-July on the project that features:
  • a 2,300-square foot short game area with two greens for chipping and pitching along with three bunkers.
  • a 15,000-square foot wedge area includes a tee with three target greens, allowing UC student-athletes to hit shots from 40-90 yards.
  • a new driving tee with target greens spread through the range.
Hills and Forrest Golf Architecture is the general contractor on the project.

"This state-of-the-art facility will change our program," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "It will allow our players the opportunity to create and practice every possible shot needed to develop a diverse short game. We are blessed to have this opportunity and want to especially thank Coldstream Country Club and the UC administration. We have made tremendous strides in every aspect of our program and this is an important step forward."

UC's partnership with Coldstream began prior to the 2016-17 season. For the second consecutive year, the country club will play host to the Bearcats Invitational (Sept. 25-26).

"Coldstream is thrilled with the development of our new practice facility and our relationship with the University of Cincinnati golf program," Coldstream president Brian Carley said. "Our goals are to reaffirm Coldstream as a nationally recognized golf facility and to provide UC the opportunity to make its golf program one of the most respected in the country.  Building the new practice facility, partnering with UC and hosting the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream with top-ranked college teams is a win-win for everyone. The best deserves the best."

The Bearcats registered their best finish at a league tournament since 1994, tying for second at the 2017 American Men's Golf Championship in late April. Sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) tied for fifth at 1-over par 214 while freshman Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) tied for ninth at 5-over 218. Squires was named the 2017 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and advanced to the NCAA West Lafayette Regional where he tied for 21st place, the highest NCAA Tournament finish by a Bearcat in school history.
