Thomas, Owens Garner AAC Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A pair of University of Cincinnati women's basketball student-athletes earned American Athletic Conference weekly accolades on Tuesday with freshman forward Iimar'i Thomas selected as Freshman of the Week, while senior guard Ana Owens was picked for the Weekly Honor Roll.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A pair of University of Cincinnati women's basketball student-athletes earned American Athletic Conference weekly accolades on Tuesday with freshman forward IImar'I Thomas selected as Freshman of the Week, while senior guard Ana Owens was picked for the Weekly Honor Roll.
 
In a 66-54 win at East Carolina on Saturday to open conference play, Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) totaled 14 points and five rebounds, while Owens (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) led all scorers with 18 points to go along with an also game-high seven assists.
 
Tuesday's distinction marks the third time this season Thomas has been selected as the conference's Freshman of the Week. Meanwhile, Owens' honor is her first weekly league nod this season and the eighth of her career.
 
On the season, Thomas is 19th in the AAC in scoring at 11.9 points per game and 18th in rebounding at 6.2 a contest. The 17-year-old is shooting a league-best 60.7-percent from the field. Owens ranks 27th in The American in scoring at 10.5 points per and is fourth in assists with 4.6 a game. The senior is also third-best in the league in free-throw percentage at 93.5 percent and possesses a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio which ranks eighth in the conference.
