CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team will open the 2018 season with a match at Purdue on Saturday, Jan. 13. The match will begin at 9 a.m. Following the match at Purdue, the Bearcats will travel to Butler on Sunday, Jan. 14. The match against the Bulldogs will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Bearcats head into the 2018 season following a strong fall outing. Newcomers Emma Miceli and Ioana Guna led the way with records of 9-2 singles/10-5 doubles/19-7 overall and 8-3/9-5/17-8 respectively. Each advanced to the third round of the main draw at the 2017 ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships after a pair of victories. Fellow newcomer Alexia Coutino will look to build upon her fall season as she finished with a record of 8-3/8-5/16-8.

The Bearcats return four members from the 2016-17 season, including Senior Ali Miller, a 2016 all-conference selection. Caroline Morton will look to build on her victories in twenty six singles matches, including going from February 24th to April 20th without suffering a loss, and sixteen doubles matches. Antonella Bramato added eighteen singles victories and nineteen doubles victories. Sophomore Anna Philp added seventeen singles victories and nine doubles victories.
The Bearcats finished the 2017 spring season ranking No. 9 in the Ohio Valley with a 17-7 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The 17 wins broke the program record for spring season wins of 16, set in 2009.

Purdue is coming off a 6-16 record, 1-10 in the Big Ten, last season that featured four seniors, three true freshman and a top-10 recruiting class. When the ITA Singles Rankings were released following the fall season, Junior Silvia Ambrosio landed at No. 86.
Butler finished the season with a 5-18 record while going 0-3 in Big East competition. The Bulldogs are led by Seniors Bailey Padgett, Rachel Sutton and Jordan Minnick.
