TicketsWEST LAFAYETTE - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team opened the spring season with a trip to West Lafayette, Ind., Saturday. With snow covered courts outside, the Bearcats & Purdue Boilermakers faced off inside on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Bearcats played Purdue tough, but were ultimately defeated by the Boilermakers 5-2.

Purdue took the win in doubles action, clinching the point with wins on courts No. 3 and No. 2 before adding a third victory on the first court to earn the sweep.

Purdue took the first four singles matches before Antonella Bramato got the Bearcats on the board. Bramato defeated Zala Dovnik in a 7-5, 6-4 victory on court No. 5. Caroline Morton added the Bearcats second victory during the singles matches. Morton defeated Ena Babic in a closely contested match. After dropping the first set 4-6, Caroline battled back to take the second set 7-5. She secured the victory with a 10-6 win in the third set.

"We gave it a good effort today, but just couldn't get our teeth sunk into enough matches to really put the pressure on Purdue. The better team won today. It's a long season and this group will keep getting better. We'll all hope for a better result at Butler tomorrow."

The Bearcats will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on the Butler Bulldogs on January 14, 2018. The match is scheduled to be played 10:30am.
