PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A pair of University of Cincinnati women's basketball student-athletes earned American Athletic Conference weekly accolades on Monday with freshman forward IImar'I Thomas selected as Freshman of the Week, while senior guard Ana Owens was picked for the Weekly Honor Roll.
The duo was impressive last week as UC went 2-0 with Thomas averaging 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, while Owens posted team bests of 19.5 points and 4.5 assists each contest as well as 3.0 rebounds per.
In an 88-82 win at Houston on Wednesday, Thomas added 11 points as well as six rebounds and three assists, while Owens led the way for the Bearcats with a season-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
The pair followed with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists for Thomas, and 12 points and five assists by Owens in an 80-72 home win over Temple on Saturday.
Monday's honor is the fourth time this season Thomas has been selected as The American's Freshman of the Week. Meanwhile, Owens' honor is her second weekly honor roll selection this season and the ninth of her career. The twosome earned the same honors just two weeks ago.
On the season, Thomas is 18th in the AAC in both scoring and rebounding at 11.8 and 6.0 per game, respectively. The 17-year-old is also shooting a league-best 61.3 percent from the field. Owens ranks 22nd in The American in scoring at 11.2 points each contest and is third in assists with 4.3 a game. The senior is also second-best in the league in free-throw percentage at 91.8 percent and possesses a 1.4 assist-to-turnover ratio which ranks eighth in the conference.
