CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team opened its 2018 campaign Friday, dropping a 15-9 decision to Louisville at Gettler Stadium in the first of 10 home games for the Bearcats.
The Cardinals (1-0) jumped out to a 10-2 lead before UC (0-1) scored four of the next five goals to trail 12-6 five minutes into the second half. It was a tale of two halves Friday as UC was in an 11-4 halftime hole, but battled back and outscored the Cardinals 5-4 in the second stanza. UC also held possession better, grabbing 11 of its 19 ground balls and forcing six turnovers in the second half.
McKenna Rushford and Monica Borzillo led the scoring efforts with a pair of goals apiece. Rushford added two assists while Sam Mlkvy had a goal and an assist. Freshmen Alyssa Adams and Kate Carney scored their first career goals with Carney chipping in on an assist as well. Amanda Donovan and Amanda Fess closed out the scoring for UC.

The Bearcats will make the first road trip of the season next week as they will travel to South Carolina for a pair of game. First, UC will meet Gardner-Webb in a 5 p.m. contest in Boiling Springs, S.C., on Friday, February 16, before closing out the trip on Sunday, February 18, with a Noon contest at Wintrop in Rock Hill, S.C.

- The 2018 lid lifter was the first time UC had opened a season at home in program history. UC is 5-6 in home openers and 3-8 in season openers all time.
- Draw controls were knotted at 13 apiece, but UC held a 7-3 edge in the second half.
- UC outshot UofL 14-9 in the second half after being outshot 18-9 in the first.
