BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team recorded one of its top offensive performances in program history as the Bearcats handed host Gardner-Webb a 20-9 defeat Friday night at Spangler Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C. The win moved the Bearcats to 1-1 on the year while the Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 1-1 following their first loss of 2018.
UC jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before seeing the hosts draw to within one at 3-2. But, the Bearcats would score five goals in a row and eight of the next nine to take an 11-3 lead into halftime. In the second half, GWU drew to within six (12-6 and 14-8), but UC would score the next five goals to build a 19-8 lead before trading goals in the waning minutes for the final outcome.
The Bearcats had nine different players record at least one goal in the contest with six netting at least two. Monica Borzillo led the charge as she connected on five scores in the game with Taylor Gysin and Sam Mlkvy each adding three goals apiece. Amanda Donovan, McKenna Rushford and Alyssa Adams each scored two goals while Kate Carney, Gianna Napoletano and Julia Byrne each scored once. UC assisted on half of its goals with Carney recording a team-high four of the team's 10 assists with Borzillo adding two.

As a team, the Bearcats recorded five entries into the single-game Top 10 charts, including 42 shots that tied the school record (at Campbell, 2/26/17). The 20 goals scored ties for the fourth-most in a single game while the 10 assists rank as the sixth-most in a game. Combined, the 30 points tallied ranks tied for third all-time. Defensively, the 18 caused turnovers ranks as the second-best total in a game behind only the 20 forced on Robert Morris in 2009 (2/22).

Borzillo had another strong outing as she netted a game-high five goals and chipped in a pair of assists for seven points. Her seven points ties for the seventh-most in a single game, marking the sixth time this has happened. Her five goals also rank tied for seventh, marking the 13th time this has happened and the second time for her. Also, Borzillo moved into the career Top 10 in goals scored following her showing tonight as she brought her total to 46. That total ranks her ninth all-time in program history.

Carney, a freshman, finished her second collegiate game with one goal and four assists, giving her career-highs for both assists and points (five). Not only was tonight the second game in a row she has scored a goal, it also saw her record the eighth-most assists in a game in program history (sixth time).

Two more freshmen also recorded several firsts tonight. Gysin scored three goals in the game which go down as her first collegiate goals and her first collegiate points. Adams finished the game with two goals and one assist, giving the rookie her first multi-goal game to go along with her first career assist.
