The Turning Point: UC came back from a pair of 11-point deficits, one in the first half and one in the second and cut the Wichita State lead to a pair at 72-70 with 14 seconds left. The Shockers converted a long outlet pass for a fast-break layup to nullify UC's full-court pressure at 74-70 with 10 seconds left. Gary Clark put back an offensive rebound with eight seconds left to make things 74-72 but WSU again broke the press with long ball/fast-break dunk, making the final margin 76-72, snapping the Bearcats' 39-game home winning streak.

Leaders: Jarron Cumberland was one of four Bearcats to score in double figures in the game as he tallied 18 points while both Cane Broome and Jacob Evans III each added 16 points and Gary Clark finished with 11. Landry Shamet led the Shockers with 19 while Morris (13) and Reaves (12) each chipped in double-digit scoring as well.

// TEAM NOTES
  • The loss, UC's second in a row after a 16-game winning streak, dropped the Bearcats to 23-4 overall and 12-2 in the American Athletic Conference. Wichita State improved to 21-5 overall and 11-3 in league play.
  • IN THE SERIES: With the loss today, the Bearcats fell to 18-12 in the all-time series with the Shockers and 11-4 in games played at UC's home. Wichita State leads the series when played at WSU, 8-7.
  • The loss today halted UC's nation-leading home winning streak at 39 games. The last time the Bearcats suffered a defeat on their home court came December 29, 2015, inside Fifth Third Arena to Temple in the 2015-16 AAC opener.
  • In Cincinnati's four losses this season, the Bearcats have shot 30-percent or less from behind the three-point line each time. UC finished with a 30.4 percent clip Sunday and came in at 28.6 percent at Xavier, 26.7 percent vs. Florida and 26.7 percent at Houston. 
  • UC blocked fives shots in the game and have stuffed three or more shots in every game this season.
  • UC racked up eight steals, the 12th time this year with eight or more takeaways.
  • UC won the battle of the boards 27-26 and 10-9 on the offensive glass this year, marking only the second time this season Wichita State has been out-rebounded. 
  • The Shockers fired at a 52.9-percent clip from the floor (27-of-51), a season-high mark against the Bearcats defense and only the second time this season a team has shot 50 percent or better against UC (Cleveland State).
  • WSU converted 13 UC turnovers into 22 points, only the second time this season UC has given up 20 or more points off turnovers (27 vs. Florida).
  • HALFTIME REPORT: Despite falling behind by as much as 11 with 6:20 remaining in the opening half, the Bearcats fought back and eventually tied the game before halftime before two late free throws by Wichita State gave the visitors a 42-40 lead at the break. Jarron Cumberland led the way offensively for the Bearcats with 13 points while Jacob Evans III and Gary Clark each chipped in seven points. WSU was led by Landry Shamet, who scored 16 as the Shockers connected on 60.9-percent shooting to UC's 48.3-percent from the field.
// PLAYER NOTES
  • Gary Clark made his 128th career start (the most of any player in UC history) and played in his 130th consecutive game for the Bearcats, which is the fourth-most in program history.
  • Clark finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, a season-high tying three steals and a block. He has hit double digits in 21 games this season and 70 for his career. It was the eighth time this season Clark tallied three or more assists.
  • Jarron Cumberland poured in a team-best 18 points after knocking down three of UC's seven three pointers. He added three assists, three steals and two blocks. Cumberland led the team in scoring for the first time in 10 games, dating back to when he scored 18 at USF. 
  • Cane Broome came off the bench to score 16 points with 12 coming in the final 20 minutes of play. He was 7-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from behind the line, grabbed a pair of rebounds and dished out an assist. The seven field-goals made was a season high and his 16 points was the best scoring output since totaling 17 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
  • Jacob Evans III finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Evans has hit for double figures in 12 of UC's last 14 games and 24 times this season.
