TicketsCINCINNATI – The BIG EAST Conference has announced its weekly award winners for women's lacrosse with University of Cincinnati sophomore Monica Borzillo being named the Attacker of the Week following the Bearcats' 2-0 road trip through the Carolinas over the weekend.
Borzillo is the first Bearcats player to be named the conference's attacker of the week since the award began in 2015 and is the third different player in program history be selected for the league's top weekly offensive honor after Meg Bell (2/25/14) and Laura Simanski (2/23/09) were honored. A five-time freshman of the week honoree last year, Borzillo's award this week is her first non-rookie honor in her career and the first earned by a UC player this season.
Last week, the Bearcats went 2-0 on the road with wins of 20-9 at Gardner-Webb and 12-10 at Winthrop to improve to 2-1 overall in 2018. In the opening game, Borzillo led the way as she netted five goals, the eighth-most in a single game in program history, while chipping in a pair of assists as well. In the trip finale, she added another two goals and three assists to five her seven goals, five assists and 12 points on the weekend as UC got off to its second-best start in program history. With her goal total, she raised her career tally to 48, the eighth-most in program history for a career just three games into her sophomore campaign.
The Bearcats return to action at home Monday at 5 p.m. as intrastate rival Ohio State visits Gettler Stadium.
