The Bearcats (2-1) are winners of two in a row after an opening day setback while the Buckeyes (1-2) are coming off their second loss of the year, a 17-16 overtime loss at Jacksonville.

Following the game with the Buckeyes, UC will play host to Central Michigan on Friday, March 2, before playing host to Detroit on Monday, March 5, and Campbell on Thursday, March 8. The four-game home stand will also mark four of the final five non-conference games remaining on the schedule as UC will jump into BIG EAST play on Sunday, March 18, with a trip to Marquette.

Last week, the Bearcats went 2-0 on the road with wins of 20-9 at Gardner-Webb and 12-10 at Winthrop to improve to 2-1 overall in 2018. In the opening game, Borzillo led the way as she netted five goals, the eighth-most in a single game in program history, while chipping in a pair of assists as well. In the trip finale, she added another two goals and three assists to five her seven goals, five assists and 12 points on the weekend as UC got off to its second-best start in program history.

The BIG EAST Conference has announced its weekly award winners for women's lacrosse with Monica Borzillo being named the Attacker of the Week following the Bearcats' 2-0 road trip through the Carolinas last weekend. Borzillo is the first Bearcats player to be named the conference's attacker of the week since the award began in 2015 and is the third different player in program history be selected for the league's top weekly offensive honor after Meg Bell (2/25/14) and Laura Simanski (2/23/09) were honored. A five-time freshman of the week honoree last year, Borzillo's award this week is her first non-rookie honor in her career and the first earned by a UC player this season.

McKenna Rushford's day against Winthrop, which also was her birthday, saw her open the scoring just 10 seconds into the contest before adding her second of the game with 3:21 remaining in the first half. The only player on either team score more than once in the first half, Rushford went back to work immediately after the intermission and netted her third of the contest with just 36 seconds removed from the second half clock. With UC trailing for the first time, 8-7, at the 18:06 mark, Rushford would lead the way with three of UC's final five goals to put the game away and give the visitors the win. Overall, Rushford surpassed her previous career marks with her offensive performance today, which also included four draw controls won. Entering the game, her four points and four goals scored against Butler (April 1, 2017) and four points and two assists against Louisville in this year's season opener (February 9) were her career highs. Not only did she better all of those categories, she also added her name to a trio of individual game record lists as her nine points and six goals both are tied for the second-most in a single UC game. Monica Borzillo holds the points record with 10 (vs. Butler, 4/1/17) while Kylie Ramsland holds the goals record at seven (at Villanova, 4/30/10). Rushford also was 3-for-3 on free-position goals, which ties the record with five other players, most recently Courtney Curtis (3/15/15).

Giuliana Durso had a big day in goal at Winthrop as she faced 21 shots and turned away 11 to pick up the victory, her second in a row. Her save total is a career high and marks the second time she has done so this year after recording a then-career-high eight saves against Louisville in the opener. For her career, Durso entered the contest with 18 career saves and nearly reached that in today's contest alone.

As a team, the Bearcats recorded five entries into the single-game Top 10 charts, including 42 shots that tied the school record (at Campbell, 2/26/17). The 20 goals scored ties for the fourth-most in a single game while the 10 assists rank as the sixth-most in a game. Combined, the 30 points tallied ranks tied for third all-time. Defensively, the 18 caused turnovers ranks as the second-best total in a game behind only the 20 forced on Robert Morris in 2009 (2/22).

Carney, a freshman, finished her second collegiate game with one goal and four assists, giving her career-highs for both assists and points (five). Not only was tonight the second game in a row she has scored a goal, it also saw her record the eighth-most assists in a game in program history (sixth time).

Ohio State opened the year with a 9-7 defeat at Navy before downing Detroit, 20-5, in their home opener. Friday, OSU traveled to Jacksonville and suffered a 17-16 defeat in overtime. Liza Hernandez leads the offense with 12 goals while both McKayla Conti (6-3) and Sara Dickinson (5-4) have added nine points each.
