CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team got the weekend sweep with a 5-2 victory over Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon. The Bison came thundering in to take the doubles point, but were corralled early on in singles. They came charging to try to take the match, only to be wrangled up once again.

Alexia Coutino and Emma Miceli collected the Bearcats only win in doubles with a 6-4 victory. Antonella Bramato and Ali Miller didn't make it easy on Lipscomb as they battled to a tie breaker, ultimately falling.

Anna Philp tied the match up for the Bearcats as she quickly worked her way to her third straight singles win in a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Emma Miceli, looking spry following the marathon match against Miami (OH), quickly followed suit with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Antonella Bramato extended the Bearcats match lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory of her own. Lipscomb notched their only victory in singles as Kateryna Popova took down the Bearcats Ioana Guna 6-3, 6-4. After falling in the first set, Alexia Coutino bounced back to take the second set in what would be a thrilling three set victory. She jumped out to an early lead in the third set before Lipscomb's Viktoriya Dzyuba came roaring back. The freshman gathered herself and locked in to get the match victory for the Bearcats as she finished Dzyuba off 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Rounding out the night, Caroline Morton faltered in the first set, but bounced back to take the second. Morton finished the night off in a second tiebreaker against Madeleine Brooks, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (2).

"We've got a young team, but this young team has a lot of heart and a lot of fight. You need a match like this, a match to win like this, to really sell your new people that this is what it's about. Alexia (Coutino) in particular figured out that it's about fight and heart. Her play was great, but her heart was bigger and her fight is what won her today's match and clinched it for us."

The Bearcats return to the court as they face their first American Athletic Conference foe on February 8, 2018. The Memphis Tigers will come to town for an afternoon match starting at 1 p.m.
