CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati junior swingman Jacob Evans III has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Evans averaged a team-best 15.0 points while shooting 42.3 percent (11 of 26) from the floor and 42.9 percent (6 of 14) from three-point range with 4.0 rebounds during a 2-0 week that resulted in Cincinnati (27-4, 16-2) clinching its first outright conference regular-season title since 2002.
Evans scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting with a trio of three-pointers and a team-high seven rebounds in No. 10 Cincinnati's 62-61 road win at No. 11 Wichita State in the regular-season finale on Sunday.
Evans played the first 11 minutes in UC's 78-49 victory at Tulane on Thursday, posting 11 points with a trio of threes before suffering a foot injury that prevented him from returning to the game.
The versatile Evans averages a team-high 13.5 points to go with 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks this season for the Bearcats.
A finalist for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, Evans finished the regular season ranked among The American's leaders in eight categories: three-point shooting percentage (sixth at .404), assist-to-turnover ratio (seventh at 1.8), steals (eighth with 1.3), assists (10th at 3.3), blocks (10th at 1.0), points (13th with 13.5), three-pointers made (13th at 1.8 per game) and minutes played (21st with 30.7).
This marks the second weekly honor roll award for Evans this season. He also won the award on Feb. 5 after scoring 18 points with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in Cincinnati's 80-70 comeback win over Houston (Jan. 31). He then tallied a game-high 19 points, making 9 of 10 free throws with five rebounds and three assists in UC's 65-57 road win at UConn (Feb. 3).
Evans has been named The American's Player of the Week twice this season (Dec. 18 and Jan. 8).
Earlier in his career, Evans earned weekly honor roll selection (11/14/16) and two rookie of the week honors (12/28/15 and 2/29/16).
