University of Cincinnati baseball returns to Marge Schott Stadium for a three-game series with Tennessee this weekend. Games are scheduled for 4pm Friday and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.

• On Saturday, the first 500 fans through the gates will receive red and black pom-poms

// SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• Tennessee will play its first road games of the season when it takes the trip to Cincinnati this weekend
• The Vols hold a 5-17-1 record in head-to-head competition
• Cincinnati played Tennessee either on the road or at a neutral site for the past 23 meetings, dating back to 1922
• Last season UT won the three-game series in Knoxville. UC took game one 2-1 then dropped a Saturday double header by scores of 2-1 and 6-2. Tennessee was ranked No. 25 at the time
• In the game one victory, Connor McVey had both RBI, hitting a homerun in the first and then grounding out in the fifth
David Orndorff picked up his first save of the 2017 season in that outing by pitching 3.0 innings in relief with two hits, no runs, no walks and two strikeouts
• The Bearcats' last win over the Vols prior to 2017came in 1976 at a neutral site. UC won 4-3 in eight innings
• The Vols have dropped three of their last five games
• In midweek action, Tennessee beat James Madison 10-1 before losing to the same opponent 21-2 on Wednesday
• Last weekend UT went 1-2 at the Tri-Star Classic
• The Vols opened with a 10-9 defeat to ETSU on Friday, followed with a 2-1 win over Memphis on Saturday and lost 7-5 to Middle Tennessee in the weekend finale on Sunday
 
// HONORS ROLLING IN
Senior Kyle Mottice was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday due to an impressive performance as the Bearcats went 4-1 at home last week
• Mottice hit an even .500 through the five games
• He started the week by going 2-for-4 with a double against NKU on Tuesday
• He earned five hits in the Saturday double-header with UT Martin and had two more in the finale on Sunday
• Mottice also stole four bags on four attempts and added in one walk and one sacrifice
Joey Thomas landed a spot on the Johnny Bench Award Watch List which was announced Tuesday afternoon, being recognized for the second year in a row as one of the top catchers in the country
• On Wednesday Connor McVey was announced as the American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete for baseball for the 2017-18 academic year. The award recognizes the top student-athlete in each sport across the conference
 
// A LOOK AT THE AMERICAN
• The American Athletic Conference has numerous teams currently ranked in the national polls
• ECU, UCF and Wichita State are all ranked in at least one poll while Houston just dropped out
• Cincinnati wasn't the only team to beat a ranked opponent in this week's early action as UCF took down No. 1 Florida twice: 9-7 on Tuesday and 4-2 on Wednesday
