FINAL RESULTS

University of Cincinnati junior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) finished second and redshirt-freshman Andy Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood High School) took third Tuesday at the Colleton River Collegiate at the Colleton River Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.

The duo helped the Bearcats (29-over 300-308-285=893) tie for second place with Miami-Ohio (29-over 296-309-288=893) in the team standings behind only Iowa State (16-over 296-296-288=880). The finish marks the Bearcats' best result since taking second at the Firestone Invitational on Oct. 3, 2017.

Squires carded an even par 70-76-70-216, finishing one stroke behind individual medalist Brian Ohr of Miami-Ohio, who posted a 1-under 70-77-68=215. Squires recorded four birdies and 12 par scores during his final round. His tee shot on No. 16 went left into the rough and was lost, costing Squires the overall lead. He still managed to only bogie the hole. He finished with 13 birdies for the event and registers his best result of the spring season.

Mayhew completed the event at 1-over 75-70-72=217. A trio of birdies and 12 par scores highlighted his final round. He registered five birdies as part of a tournament-best 2-under 70 for the second round. The third-place finish for Mayhew was his best result to date after five collegiate tournaments.

UC sophomore Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) climbed 16 spot during the third round to finish the tournament tied for 25th place at 13-over 78-80-71=229. Senior Davis Baxter (Nolsenville, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) moved up 12 slots to end the event tied for 36th place at 15-over 77-82-72=231. Freshman Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian High) tied for 62nd at 22-over 78-85-75=238.

UC junior Paul Huber (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic High School) played as an individual, tying for 25th place at 13-over 74-78-77=229.

// QUOTING COACH DOUG MARTIN
On battling the weather conditions:
"Yesterday weather conditions made things extremely difficult, with the combination of rain, wind and cold conditions, including an hour and half delay. Today, it was cold but the wind was down."

On the team's overall play:
"We made way too many mistakes yesterday but were very sharp today in posting the second-best team score of the final round. It was a huge day for us.

"We've talked about finishing off tournaments and now we've done that in each of our last two events. It's a toughness that we've tried to instill. We've talked about it for a while. Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and need to stay in the present. We played with great calmness today."

On the play of Squires and Mayhew:
"Austin is closer to being back in form. He's in a great place right now. Andy is a smart, methodical player. He was incredible during the second round despite the conditions. He didn't make any mistakes and played solid today. It's a huge springboard for him to finish third."
