University of Cincinnati junior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) shares the lead at 2-under par 70 after Monday's first-round play at the Colleton River Collegiate at the Colleton River Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Second-round action was suspended due to difficult weather conditions and darkness and will resume Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. ET, with round three beginning afterward.
Six birdies, including five on the front nine holes keyed Squires' first round. He is tied with Miami-Ohio's Brian Ohr and Penn State's Alec Bard atop the leaderboard.
UC junior Paul Huber (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic High School), playing as an individual, posted a 2-over 74 and is tied for 13th place. Redshirt-freshman Andy Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood High School) is tied for 19th place a stroke behind Huber at 3-over 75. Senior Davis Baxter (Nolsenville, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) shot a 5-over 77 to tie for 33rd place. Freshman Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian High) and sophomore Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) are tied for 42nd place at 6-over 78.
Tournament host Michigan State along with Iowa State, Rutgers and Miami-Ohio are in a four-way tie for the lead in the 12-team field at 8-over 296. Cincinnati is four strokes back in sixth place after a 12-over 300.
