University of Cincinnati junior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) fired a 4-under par 68 Monday to climb into a tie for ninth place at 3-under 73-68=141 after two rounds at the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Club in Greensboro, Ga.
Squires tallied five birdies and went bogey free over the final 12 holes of the round. The performance marks Squires' lowest score of the spring season and his third-best round of the year.
Georgia's Davis Thompson leads the event at 12-under 63-69=132.
The Bearcats slipped two spots in the team standings to ninth at 2-over 287-291=578. Georgia leads the 16-team field at 18-under 272-286=558.
UC freshman Nicholas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian High School) is tied for 30th place at 1-over at 69-76=145. One stroke behind is senior Davis Baxter (Nolensville, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) tied for 39th place at 2-over 72-74=146. Sophomore Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) at 5-over 76-73=149 and redshirt freshman Andy Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood High School) at 5-over 73-76=149 are tied for 56th position.

"We were not as sharp today. The hole locations were much more difficult today and required great discipline on knowing when you could attack. Consequently, it caused us to play more conservative. I think it's important that we come out with a more aggressive approach (Tuesday) when opportunity arises.
