CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati baseball team cruised to a 6-1 victory over visiting UT Martin on Friday in the first game of the series.
UC showcased an all-around performance with power and small-ball at the plate, great pitching and stellar defense to record the win.

• Cincinnati evens its record to 4-4 on the season. UT Martin drops to 1-7
• J.T. Perez picked up his second win this season, going 6.0 scoreless innings with four hits, three walks and four strikeouts
• A.J. Kullman came in and got the 3.0 inning save. He allowed one run and two hits but then settled in to strike out seven
• Manny Rodriguez kept up his pace at the plate with a 2-for-4 day
• A.J. Bumpass blasted a ball out to right field for the loudest hit of the day, earning himself two RBI
• The Bearcats turned three double plays and played an errorless game
// KEY INNINGS
Bottom of the 4th
• UC got the scoring started as Kyle Mottice single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored easily when Joey Wiemer worked a two-out count full and double to the wall in left center. Bumpass then homered to right field to make it a 3-0 Bearcats' lead
Top of the 7th
• The Skyhawks scored their only run in the seventh. Kullman entered the game and gave up a double and RBI base hit, but then struck out the side
Bottom of the 8th
• The Bearcats added some insurance with three runs in their final at-bat. It started when Mason DeAnna singled and Treg Haberkorn walked to put two on. Mottice put down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. That mistake allowed DeAnna to score and Haberkorn and Mottice to advance into scoring position. A Rodriguez RBI base hit and Connor McVey sacrifice fly tacked on two more runs.
