CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball split a double-header with Houston on Friday, dropping the first game 4-2 before winning the second 2-1.
 
The day was highlighted by the Bearcats' pitching. Six UC hurlers saw action and not one allowed an earned run.
 
UC is now 11-13 on the year and 2-3 in conference play while UH sits at 17-10 and 4-1.

// NOTABLES
• Four UC errors would result in the loss for the Bearcats as all of UH's runs came in unearned
J.T. Perez pitched well in the start. He went 7.0 innings with five hits, one walk and five strikeouts
A.J. Kullman and Clayton Colvin followed Perez out of the bullpen, both pitching an inning each. Colvin collected two strikeouts
• With a walk in his first at-bat, Manny Rodriguez extended his reach-base safely streak to 25 games. He also added in a double, UC's only extra-base hit in the contest

Top of the 1st

• Houston took an early lead on an error and a double
Bottom of the 3rd
Cincinnati answered and tied the game when Treg Haberkorn singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Joey Thomas
Top of the 4th
• The Cougars took the lead back on a double and error
Bottom of the 6th
• The Bearcats tied the game back up, 2-2, when Kyle Mottice was hit by a pitch, advanced on a ground out and scored on a Joey Wiemer single
Top of the 7th
• Unfortunately, the UC lead once again did not last. A UH single, error and squeeze bunt scored the go-ahead run
Top of the 8th
• The Cougars tacked another run on with a single, error and fielder's choice to make it a 4-2 game

// NOTABLES
• Pitching once again led the way as Nathan Kroger went 6.0 innings in the start with four hits, one walk and one strikeout and did not give up and earned run
Doug Lowe II earned the win after 2.0 frames of work, striking out three of the six batters he faced
Jarod Yoakam finished the game on the mound for his second save of the season
• Mottice had two hits while Eric Santiago also had two hits in the game
• Rodriguez extended his reach safely streak to 26 games with a double
Connor McVey also doubled in the contest

Bottom of the 3rd

• Cincinnati scored first in the contest with a Mottice single and RBI double by Rodriguez
Top of the 4th
• The pesky Cougars answered once again, and once again were given a unearned run. An error started the fourth inning before a double tied the game
Bottom of the 7th
• The deciding run came home when McVey doubled and scored on a RBI base hit by Santiago
 
// UP NEXT
• The series will be decided on Saturday in a noon start
• The Bearcats will remain home to host Wright State on Tuesday
• The homestand will extend through next weekend as UC will welcome Memphis to town for a three-game set
