COLUMBUS, Ohio – The opening day of the 2018 NCAA Zone C Championships came to a close on Thursday with the women competing in the 1-meter and the men in 3-meter.
 
In the preliminary round, Ellen Posch scored a 235.35 to  place 39th and Bearcats teammate Claire Schuermann posted a score of 230.60 to finish 41st. The top 18 divers moved on to the finals.
 
In the men's 3-meter competition, UC's Mitch Godar scored 222.30 to finish 39th.
 
// FRIDAY EVENTS
• The second day of competition will have the women compete in 3-meter and the men in 1-meter
• Saturday, the final day, both women and men will compete in platform
 
// HOW IT WORKS
• Five zone meets are held across the country this week. Each zone earns a set number of qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships based on previous performances
• For the women, Zone C in Columbus will receive eight 1-meter spots, ten 3-meter spots and ten platform spots
• For the men, there are ten 1-meter spots, ten 3-meter spots and 11 platform spots available
• Any diver who earns a qualifying spot in their zone competition gets an opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships
