Lacrosse Wins Sixth-Straight Game, Downs Campbell 17-11

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team knocked off Campbell by a 17-11 margin Thursday on a cloudy and brisk day at Gettler Stadium to continue the best start to a season in program history.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team knocked off Campbell by a 17-11 margin Thursday on a cloudy and brisk day at Gettler Stadium to continue the best start to a season in program history.
 
Behind five goals from McKenna Rushford and hat tricks by Sam Mlkvy and Gianna Napoletano, UC (6-1) won its sixth-consecutive game, notching the longest winning streak in the program's 11-year history.

The Bearcats completed a sweep of their four-game homestand and dropped Campbell to 2-5 on the season. With UC up 8-4 at halftime, the Camels scored five of the first seven goals in the second half and pulled things to within one at 10-9 with 19:03 remaining. The Bearcats ran off two scores from Rushford in a span of 12 seconds and never looked back, turning up the defense and holding Campbell to one goal in the final 13 minutes of the game.
 
GK Giuliana Durso made eight saves and picked up her sixth win of the season.
 
// RUSHFORD DANCES TO FIVE GOALS
Rushford finished off her fifth multiple goal game of the season with five scores, the third time she has found the back of the net five or more times this season. She leads the Bearcats with nine free-position goals and 10 caused turnovers. She ranks second in points (32), goals (22), assists (10), draw controls (27), shots (35) and shots on goal (20).
 
// HOLDING POSSESSION
UC tallied 12 of its 18 draw controls in the second half and also was 8-for-8 on clear attempts. Donovan and Rushford had five draw controls apiece along with Schuyler Nissen who picked up three.

// HAT TRICKS ALL AROUND
Mlkvy had her second-straight hat trick and third of the season while Napoletano's was the second of her career. Both of her hat tricks and six of her eight career goals have come against the Camels.
 
// AT THE HALF
UC led 8-4 at the break on a first-half hat trick from Rushford. The sophomore opened the scoring on a free-position shot and added the Bearcats second goal moments later. She tallied a third with 1:24 left in the first half. UC got a pair of goal from Mlkvy and single goals from Napoletano, Alyssa Adams and Bridget Cleary.
 
// THE WIN COLUMN
Through seven games, UC has already tied for the third-best win total in program history. Over 10 years, UC has won six games three times (2014, 2017, 2018) and seven games twice (2009, 2013).

// GOING STREAKING
The Bearcats are on a six-game winning streak, the longest in program history. UC previously ran off a string of five-straight wins in 2014, knocking off Winthrop, Presbyterian, Coastal Carolina, Iona and Detroit Mercy.

The Bearcats will head out on the road for the next two games, facing Marquette in the BIG EAST Conference opener on Sunday, March 18 at 1 p.m. ET in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and heading to Philadelphia for a matchup with Temple at noon on Saturday, March 24.
