CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 exhibition win over visiting Bellarmine on a sunny but chilly Saturday at Gettler Stadium.
The Bearcats and Knights played three 30-minute halves, with UC finding the back of the net in the first two. The UC defense was solid, surrendering only four shots on goal while three goalkeepers combined for a clean sheet.
Ryan Melink (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) got UC on the board in the 23rd minute. The sophomore struck the ball from 35-yards out into the right upper 90, sneaking it past a diving Bellarmine keeper.
Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) added a second goal in the 57th minute. Smyth chipped it past the Knights keeper for the score off a feed from Daniel Oginni (Mississauga, Ontario/King's Christian Collegiate).
Smythe and Melink combined for five shots, while Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) also had a pair of chances on net.
Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) got the start in net and made three saves in 47 minutes. Pearce Skinner (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) made one save in just over 30 minute of play and Jake Mutlu (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West/Cincinnati State) played the final 11 minutes.
The Bearcats return to the field on Thursday, April 12, traveling north to face Dayton at 8 p.m. ET.
