OXFORD, Ohio – University of Cincinnati baseball took down Wright State 11-1 on Tuesday night in the opening game of the tenth annual Joe Nuxhall Classic.
 
The Bearcats took advantage of 18 free bases in the game via fourteen walks and four hit batters.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC improves to 16-14 on the season while Wright State drops to 18-12
• Every Bearcats starter reached base in the game
• For the third time this season, Manny Rodriguez had two doubles. His reach base safely streak now sits at 32 games
• In his first appearance of the season, A.J. Olasz earned the win. He went 3.1 innings in the win with no runs and one hit
Tristan Hammans followed and relief and threw 3.2 frames with one run, two hits and three strikeouts
Clayton Colvin finished the final 2.0 innings on the mound with one hit and two strikeouts
Kyle Mottice had three RBI on the day with a hit and a walk
• Six different Bearcats were walked twice in the game while Cael Baker was hit three times
 
// KEY INNINGS
Bottom of the 2nd
• UC brought home four runs in a big second inning. It started when Connor McVey was hit by a pitch, Jace Mercer walked and Baker was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Treg Haberkorn then hit a ball up the middle to score the first run of the contest. With bases still loaded, Mottice earned an RBI on a fielder's choice then stole second. Three walks were then issued for the two other runs of the frame to cross home
Bottom of the 5th
• Baker was hit by a pitch and scored later when Mottice singled and advanced on an error. With Mottice on second, Joey Thomas switched places with him on a two-bag error to make it a 6-0 game.
Top of the 7th
• The Raiders got a run across on two two-out infield base hits and two walks
Bottom of the 8th
• The Bearcats posted five runs up on the scoreboard in their final at-bat. Those tallies came by way of seven walks and a single by A.J. Bumpass
 
// UP NEXT
• The Bearcats will play the winner of the Miami-Xavier game taking place Tuesday evening in the Classic's championship game
• That game will take place at either 3 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.
• UC returns home on Wednesday, April 18 to face Xavier at 6:30 p.m.
