// BEARCATS IN THE FIELD
Looking to continue the momentum from last year's strong performance at the conference championship, the Bearcats enjoyed a stellar start with three birdies on hole No. 1. The Red & Black's play stayed solid throughout the front nine holes with Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) holing three birdies to total a 36, while senior Christina Gloor (Mattstetten, Switzerland/ESC La Neuveville) added two birdies and junior Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) saved par on eight of nine holes.

Burritt created a duplicate on the back nine with another 36 to total an even-par 72 for the day. The sophomore notched pars on seven holes and sunk a birdie on one. Freshman Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia) improved upon a 43 on the front with a 38 on the back, featuring seven pars. Gloor and Hitt each holed a birdie on holes 10-18 en route to total scores of 76 and 77, respectively, in the opening round.

// COACH CARL ON THE BEARCATS
"I'm extremely proud of the effort the girls gave on the golf course today," said head coach Janet Carl. "We played in some extremely difficult conditions. They remained focused on the process and stuck to their game plan and played one shot at a time. Today was a total team effort. I'm really proud of Alyssa leading the way. That's all that we can ask from them as coaches. They are within striking distance of a couple of teams and I am excited to see what they can do tomorrow."
