CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball played another close game against No. 24 UConn on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Huskies prevailed and won the series with an 8-5 victory.

• The Huskies struck first. A single, hit batter and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Starter Cam Alldred then earned a strikeout but gave up a run in the next at-bat on a full-count walk. Alldred worked out of the jam with a flyout

• UConn added to its lead with a single, walk and two-run double

• The Bearcats got on the board when McVey doubled and Murphy hit a homerun to right field

• UC tied the game when Thomas singled, Bumpass doubled and McVey hustled out an infield hit for the RBI

• The Huskies broke the tie with a double, single and another double in the seventh that put the score at 5-3
Top of the 8th
• UConn tacked on two more runs in the next frame. A hit batter, single and ground out put two runners in scoring position with one out. After a walk loaded the bases, the Huskies hit a two-RBI single up the middle
Bottom of the 8th
• UC got two runs back in the bottom of the eighth. Bremner singled, Santiago doubled and Bremner came in to score on a base hit by Treg Haberkorn. Mottice then grounded out to second to score Santiago from third
Top of the 9th
• The game became an 8-5 final when UConn scored its last run on a solo homerun that just cleared the fence in left field

• UC will not have any midweek action due to finals week but will be back home at Marge Schott Stadium to host Kansas next weekend for a non-conference series
• The first game in the Kansas series is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
