The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday with Cincinnati's J.T. Perez earning recognition with a spot on the Honor Roll.
Perez tossed a complete game shutout on Friday against No. 24 UConn to earn the honors. The senior lefty gave up just six hits and walked only two while recording a career-high ten strikeouts. It was his third start this season where he did not allow an earned run. Perez was the last Bearcats pitcher to throw a complete game shutout as he did the same against Houston on May 14, 2016. Perez was also the first UC pitcher to reach ten or more strikeouts since Andrew Zellner struck out eleven on March 25, 2016 against Xavier. The performance dropped Perez's season ERA to an impressive 2.45 in ten starts.
Seven different Bearcats have now been named to the AAC Honor Roll this season. Perez joins Kyle Mottice, A.J. Kullman, Cam Alldred, Manny Rodriguez, A.J. Bumpass and Nathan Kroger in receiving recognition.
UC is back in action at home this weekend to face Kansas in a three-game non-conference series. Game times are set for 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
