LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati track and field team opened action at the Lyles/Wood Invitational at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky., Friday afternoon with a pair of personal-best marks and one all-time Top 10 mark as the Bearcats continue to work toward the upcoming American Athletic Conference Championships they will host in two weeks. Irati Mitxelena led the charge as she jumped to a personal-best mark of 5.94m (19-06.00) to not only win the women's unseeded long jump competition, but also climb higher in the UC all-time Top 10.

For the second time in three weeks, Mitxelena improved her collegiate PR, this time jumping 5.94m (19-06.00) to move into a tie for the #8 position in program history. Currently ranked sixth in the AAC, Mitxelena took the victory in the event and improved her PR by 3.5" in the process. In the same event, Kennedy Marable finished 11th overall to improve her PR by 4.25", finishing with a best of 5.48m (17-11.75) on the day.
// BIENENFELD CONTINUES TO IMPRESS
Late last night in Philadelphia, Pa., Aaron Bienenfeld competed in the 10,000m run at the 124th Penn Relays and turned in another solid performance, this time running 29:52.13 in his first collegiate race at the distance to finish fourth overall. Bienenfeld's time ranks him third all-time in UC history and leaves him just 14.84 seconds off the school record. With the fourth-best mark in the AAC so far this season and one of just five men to break 31 minutes in the event in the conference this year, Bienenfeld improved his life time best in the event by 28.49 seconds.

Three women and four men took part in various hammer throw competitions with Alexis Gray leading the women and Sam Meece the men. In the women's unseeded competition, Gray had the top mark for UC as she sent the ball out to 49.49m (162-00) to finish third overall while teammate Leah Heckaman was ninth at 47.31m (155-02).
The men saw action in a pair of events with Meece competing in the seeded portion of the event while Chris Province, Marcus Abraham and Danny Jones took part in the unseeded competition. Meece was up first and had the top mark of the for UC as he was fifth in his section with a best of 52.05m (170-09). In the unseeded competition, Province was the top finisher as he was fourth overall with a mark of 50.20m (164-08) while Abraham (46.42m/152-03) and Jones (45.61m/149-08) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
