CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball battled through a thirteen-inning game with Kansas Saturday night and ultimately won it 7-6 on a RBI base hit by Connor McVey.
The game went back and forth before entering a deadlock in extra innings. Kansas got two runners on with one out in the top of the thirteenth and Isaac Olson entered the game on the mound. Olson threw one pitch, received a double play by his defense and would go on to earn the first win of his career.
They say defense sparks offense, and that proved true for the Bearcats as Joey Thomas singled to lead off the bottom of the final frame before Manny Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice. In his first at-bat of the night, Jordan Ramey sacrificed Rodriguez into scoring position with a bunt. McVey squared up on the first pitch he received and smacked it through the middle, allowing Rodriguez to score and UC to walk off.
