CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball was firing on all cylinders Friday to take the series-opener against Memphis by a score of 10-2.
 
Despite a walk and homerun to the first two batters of the game, J.T. Perez continued to dominate on the mound while he received ample run support thanks to three extra-base hits and six stolen bases. Every Bearcats starter got on base in the game.
 
// NOTABLES
• Cincinnati improves to 13-14 on the season and 4-3 in conference play
• Memphis drops to 9-21 overall and 1-6 in the American
• Perez went 7.1 innings with two runs, five hits, two walks and five strikeouts
Clayton Colvin followed out of the bullpen, throwing the final 1.2 frames with no hits, no walks and two strikeouts
Joey Thomas, A.J. Bumpass and Joey Wiemer all had two hits on the day
• Wiemer and Connor McVey both had two RBI
Manny Rodriguez extended his reach base safely streak to 29 games with the help of a big three-run homerun
Kyle Mottice got on base three times with three walks in the leadoff spot
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st
• A leadoff, full-count walk and a homerun gave Memphis its only lead of the day
Bottom of the 2nd
• The Bearcats had their first three-run inning of the day to take the lead. Bumpass led off with a single before Wiemer reached on a fielder's choice but no out was made due to an error. With both runners remaining on base, McVey earned two RBI on a double to left field. After McVey stole third, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Dondrae Bremner
Bottom of the 3rd
• UC tacked on another with a fielder's choice and stolen base by Rodriguez and a Bumpass RBI double to left field
Bottom of the 5th
• The Bearcats posted another three-run frame in the fifth. Treg Haberkorn singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Mottice and scored on a base hit by Thomas. Later on after Bumpass was hit by a pitch, both he and Thomas came home on a Wiemer single
Bottom of the 8th
• The final three runs came in the Bearcats' last offensive inning. Mottice walked and Thomas singled before Rodriguez cleared the bases with a shot over the left field wall

• The series with Memphis continues on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game
