LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Cincinnati baseball dropped a contest at Louisville Wednesday night by a final score of 24-6.

UC jumped out to a 3-0 lead but gave up a few big innings later in the game.

• Cincinnati is now 25-22 on the season
• Louisville improves to 34-15
• The Bearcats' hits were scattered throughout the order
• Cole Murphy had a pinch hit solo homerun on the first pitch he faced and Eric Santiago started the scoring early with a double
• Seven UC pitchers saw time in the contest
• Nathan Moore made his collegiate debut
• Clayton Colvin threw one pitch to get the final out of the eighth
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st
The Bearcats wasted no time getting out in front. Rodriguez and Wiemer both walked before Santiago came up with a RBI double. A wild pitch moved Santiago to third and allowed Wiemer to score. After Bumpass walked, Santiago was able to achieve the rare steal of home after Bumpass got caught in a rundown. The Cardinals threw home to try to get Santiago but he slid in safe and Bumpass remained on first base.
Bottom of the 1st
• UC handed Louisville two runs on four straight walks and a hit batter. A base hit then tied the game at three apiece.
Bottom of the 2nd
• The Cardinals were able to take the lead during the next inning. First, a double and a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt put two runners on. A balk and a double broke the tie. An error then allowed it to become a three-run lead.
Bottom of the 5th
• A solo homerun made it 7-3
Bottom of the 6th
• The game opened up with a four-run frame for Louisville. Three walks, two hit batters and two singles allowed the runs to come home
Bottom of the 7th
• The most damage came after the stretch as the Cardinals posted nine runs in the frame. Five walks, four singles, two hit batters, a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice resulted in the bloated scoring
Top of the 8th
• Murphy entered the game on a pinch hit appearance and sent the first pitch he saw over the right field wall for a homerun. That round-tripper work up the UC bats. Mercer walked and Wiemer singled before Ramey sent them both home on a base hit.
Bottom of the 8th
• Two singles and a double tacked on another Louisville run. With runners on the corners, a ground ball made it 22-6. A two-run homerun put the score at its final
 
// UP NEXT
• The Bearcats will remain on the road this weekend for a conference series at ECU beginning Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
• UC returns home to Marge Schott Stadium on Tuesday, May 15 for an 11 a.m. game versus Ohio State
