CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced Tuesday that three University of Cincinnati women's golfers have been named All-American Scholars for the 2017-18 academic year.
Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead), and Elizabeth Keeling (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) all garnered All-American Scholar distinction. Hitt has collected the honor each of the last three years, while Burritt and Keeling both earned their first. UC has had multiple honorees each of the past seven years.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. A total of 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized this year with this prestigious honor.
"I am so proud of the commitment these players have to their academics," said head coach Janet Carl. "We have one of the longest playing seasons in collegiate sports and for them to accomplish this, with all the travel we have, is a testament to their commitment to being Class of the League on the course and in the classroom."
Burritt, a mathematics major with minors in physics and economics, recorded a 3.814 cumulative grade point average (GPA) during the 2017-18 academic year. On the course, she recorded a team-best 76.9 scoring average during 32 rounds of play, including a low round of 71. She was also UC's top finisher at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship with a tie for 12th place overall.
A finance major and economics minor, Hitt earned a 3.830 cumulative GPA this year. In competition, she carded a 77.5 scoring average during 31 rounds, including a career-best low round of 70 in the second round at ECU Pirate Collegiate Classic. She posted eight rounds of 75 or better throughout the season.
Keeling, majoring in neuroscience with a minor in Spanish, posted a 3.759 cumulative GPA. She recorded a 78.9 scoring average in 34 rounds and posted a season-low three-round score of 230 at FIU. In addition, the Knoxville native had a career-best finish of sixth place at the UC Losantiville Challenge. Keeling graduated from UC in April 2018.
