CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's golf's 2018-19 schedule was announced Tuesday by head coach Janet Carl. In total, the Bearcats will compete in 11 tournaments, including five in the fall and six in the spring.
An overall challenging schedule, the Bearcats will play in four tournaments hosted by teams who ranked among the top 70 in this past season's NCAA Division I Golfstat rankings. UC will tee off the season in the Queen City on Sept. 10 when it participates in the two-day NKU Fall Classic, hosted by Northern Kentucky, at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
"We made some changes to our schedule this year which allows us to have the entire team compete in the first event of the season and gives our local Bearcats fans the opportunity to come out and support us," said Carl. "We added the inaugural Old Dominion Invitational which allows us to play against some top-ranked teams, including UCF. In the spring, we will play in events that we have competed in in past years, while also adding the Memphis event which will feature great teams. We look forward to the return of the majority of our team, while also adding our two freshmen."
UC will follow up the NKU Fall Classic with a trip to Greenville, North Carolina to play in the Pirate Collegiate Classic, Sept. 17-18.
Weeks later, the Bearcats will begin October competition at the ODU Invitational, Oct. 5-7, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. For the third-consecutive season, the Red & Black will play in the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, Oct. 21-23, in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
UC will then wrap the fall season at the Mercer Idle Hour Collegiate Championship, Nov. 5-6, in Macon, Georgia.
After a near-four-month layoff, the Bearcats will pick back up with the spring season Feb. 18-19 at the Jacksonville Amelia Island Collegiate in Fernandina Beach, Florida. UC will return to the Jacksonville area two weeks later to participate in the North Florida Collegiate, March 4-5.
The Red & Black will then head west to compete in the Notre Dame Clover Cup, March 15-17, in Mesa, Arizona. Over spring break, UC plans to compete in the Bama Beach Bash, hosted by South Alabama, March 22-24 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. UC will close the regular season with the Memphis Invitational, April 1-2, in Memphis, Tennessee.
The 2019 American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship will be held April 14-16 at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club in Palm Coast, Florida. The Bearcats will look to continue the momentum from last year's AAC tournament in which they shot a season-low score of 290 during the third and final round, en route to a sixth-place finish.
Seven UC golfers will be back in 2018-19, including leading returning scorer Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) who posted a 76.9 scoring average over 32 rounds last year. Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead), who shot a team-best round of 70 last season, also returns, along with rising junior and sophomore classes. In addition, UC will welcome a two-golfer freshman class featuring Erin Evans (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Lily Rinker (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy).
