The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team will play host to Illinois Sunday at 1 p.m. inside Gettler Stadium to close out the 2018 exhibition season.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team will play host to Illinois Sunday at 1 p.m. inside Gettler Stadium to close out the 2018 exhibition season. The Bearcats, 3-0 winners over Dayton in their exhibition opener, will use the friendly with the Illini to prepare for the first regular season of match of the season that will follow four days later.

// LOGISTICS
• Parking: there will be a cost of $5 per car to park in any of the lots surrounding the stadium
• Tickets: admission is complimentary to this and all home women's soccer matches in 2018 as part of the Experience UC initiative
• Seating: Getter Stadium is an open-seating venue
• Playing: the match will be played as a standard competition with two, 45 minute halves
• Heads Up: fans coming to the match should be aware that later that night, at 6 p.m., FC Cincinnati will be playing host to Penn FC in a USL match at Nippert Stadium and traffic patterns around campus may be different and/or congested upon leaving the UC match.

// MET BEFORE
Cincinnati and Illinois have met just twice in regular season competition with the Illini claiming victory in both matches by 3-0 scores. The last time the two teams met in a match came on September 11, 2010, with the Illini winning the match played in Cincinnati. Prior to that, the two teams met in Champaign, Ill., on September 8, 2002.

// LOOKING BACK: UC 3:0 DAYTON
On Sunday, August 5, the Bearcats opened their exhibition season with a 3-0 victory over visiting Dayton in a friendly played at Nippert Stadium. The match was played in three, 30 minute periods with the Bearcats scoring twice in the first and once in the second. Sophie Gorman opened the scoring in the 10' as she tried to hammer home a pair of rebounds before her third attempt found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Then, in the 30' and with just 27 seconds remaining in the period, rookie Vanessa DiNardo added to the lead as she broke in behind the defense and skillfully slotted the ball into the lower corner past the on-coming keeper. The third and final goal came in the 53' as Jill Vetere converted her chance from the penalty spot.

// RECENT NEWS
The American Athletic Conference recently announced its annual preseason coaches' poll and awards:
• Gorman was a unanimous selection to the 2018 Preseason AAC All-Conference Team after earning second team accolades last year following her freshman season (she also was selected to the 2017 AAC All-Rookie Team for her efforts).
• In a vote of the conference coaches, the Bearcats were picked to finish fourth on the AAC table in 2018, receiving 54 points to edge SMU (53) for the position. The Top 3 included UCF (76 points and six first-place votes), USF (73 and 3) and Memphis (68 and 1).

// UP NEXT
The 2018 season officially kicks off Thursday (August 16) with Eastern Kentucky visiting Gettler Stadium for a 7 p.m. start. The match will be the first of two on the week for the Bearcats as they also will travel to Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday (August 19) for a 5 p.m. match at #8 Virginia.
