CINCINNATI – Graduate transfer guard Monique Thompson has joined the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team.

Thompson signed with UC after graduating from Northwest Christian University (NCU) in Eugene, Oregon, Thompson (Long Beach, Calif./St. Antony/Northwest Christian) had an impressive career as a Beacon with multiple all-conference accolades and was instrumental in her team's continued rise.

"I am excited to announce the addition of Monique Thompson to our Bearcats family," said head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. "Monique is a veteran guard that has experienced winning on multiple levels and has a true championship mindset. She is a versatile guard that will be able to play multiple positions and is competitive on both sides of the ball. We can't wait to get Monique on campus!"

As a sophomore, she started 27 games, averaging 9.6 points each contest, and totaled 59 steals en route to being named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) First Team as well as being selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Year. In 2016-17, the guard averaged a team-high 16.2 points per game, as well as Beacon-bests of 55 assists and 38 steals, in an injury-shortened season. As a result, Thompson earned First Team All-CCC honors for the second-straight year and again was named Team MVP. Continuing to recover from her injury, the California native did not play during the 2017-18 season.

UC women's basketball assistant coach Heath Alexander, who previously served as head coach at NCU and oversaw the program reaching unprecedented heights, is looking forward to reuniting with Thompson.

"Monique is an amazing leader," said Alexander, "and is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached."
Thompson is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Sport Administration graduate program at UC. She previously earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at NCU.
