// FIRST SERVE
University of Cincinnati volleyball is back in action this weekend as the team heads west for three matches in two days against tough competition. On Saturday, UC will play host No. 25 Colorado State at 1:00 p.m. EST and follow that with a match that night at 7:00 p.m. EST facing TCU. The weekend will wrap up with a noon EST contest versus Florida State on Sunday.

// REMARKABLE RETURN
• Despite missing all of 2017 due to injury, Jordan Thompson came back strong in the opening weekend at the Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational
• The three-time American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 5.62 kills per set with a .305 hitting percentage
• She ranks in the top five in the country entering the weekend in kills per set and points per set
 
// AWESOME ACHIEVEMENT
• In the season-opening match against UC Santa Barbara, senior Carly Nolan recorded her 1,000th career dig during the fourth set
• Nolan is now the seventh Bearcats player in UC history to have 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career
• The senior achieved her 1,000th kill last season
 
// DEBUT PERFORMANCES
• A few players made their UC debuts during the opening weekend
• Redshirt sophomore Dasha Cabarkapa saw her first action and played in all 13 sets
• She led the team with 1.00 blocks per set
• Freshman Maria Mallon had the first serve of the season and also played in all 13 sets
• She recorded a double-double in her collegiate debut with 11 kills and 12 digs
• The third Bearcats player to make their debut last weekend was freshman setter Armania Heckenmueller
• She played four sets in the final match against Miami and finished with 7.50 assists per set
 
// KNOW THE FOE: COLORADO STATE
Colorado State enters their home tournament ranked No. 25 in the country. The Rams sit at 2-1 this season after opening with a 3-2 loss at home against No. 12 Illinois and two 3-0 wins against UNC Wilmington and Northern Colorado. CSU is 33rd in the nation right now in aces per set
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. RAMS
Cincinnati is 1-0 all-time against Colorado State. The Bearcats won that meeting 3-0 against the No. 25 Rams back in 2002
 
// KNOW THE FOE: TCU
TCU has won all four matches played so far this year. The Horned Frogs won the first three matches of the season 3-0 against UAB, Green Bay and SIUE. They then beat North Dakota 3-1. TCU leads the nation in assists per set with 15.23
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. HORNED FROGS
Cincinnati is 3-2 all-time against TCU. The two teams last met in 2007 when the Bearcats fell 3-2 at a neutral site. UC beat TCU in 2003 during a conference match, taking a 3-0 victory
 
// KNOW THE FOE: FLORIDA STATE
Florida State is looking for its first win of the 2018 season after starting with a tough slate. The Seminoles opened with a 3-0 loss at Minnesota then lost 3-1 against Wisconsin.
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. SEMINOLES
Cincinnati is 2-16 all-time against Florida State. The two teams last met in 2012 with the Bearcats losing 3-0 against the then No. 12 ranked Seminoles. The Bearcats' last victory over FSU came in 1982 on the road with a 2-1 final score
 
// COMING UP NEXT
• Next weekend the Bearcats travel to Durham, N.C. for three matches
• The tournament opens against host Duke on Friday at noon
• UC will play Coastal Carolina Friday night at 5 p.m. and finish with a match against ETSU on Saturday at noon
 
// WE'RE COMING HOME
• UC will play at home for the first time on Friday, September 14
• The Bearcats will host Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. and Indiana at 7 p.m.
• UC will then host Xavier on Alumnae Day at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 15
• Home matches will continue to be played down the road at St. Ursula Academy as Fifth Third Arena renovation wraps up
• The Bearcats are scheduled to be back in Fifth Third Arena on campus on Friday, November 2 for the match with Wichita State
