CINCINNATI – Linebacker Bryan Wright (New Castle, Delaware/Jireh Prep) was named the American Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday, the league office announced.
Wright, playing his first game at middle linebacker after switching from defensive end in the offseason, had four tackles, including two sacks and three tackles for loss, and had a pivotal forced fumble in the fourth quarter that resulted in the go-ahead safety as the Bearcats took a 26-17 win at UCLA. He shared the weekly accolade with Houston DT Ed Oliver.
RB Michael Warren II (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll. Warren tallied a career-high 142 yards on 35 carries with a career-best three touchdowns. It was UC's top rushing performance since Gerrid Doaks (Indianapolis, Indiana/Lawrence Central) ran for 149 yards at Tulane in 2017. UC's last three TD rushing performance came from former Bearcats standout Mike Boone against Tulsa on Nov. 14, 2105.
The Bearcats face Miami (OH) on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Paul Brown Stadium in the 123rd Battle for the Victory Bell. The longtime rivals will kick off at 8 p.m. ET with the game televised on FOX 19 WXIX and ESPN3 with radio coverage on 102.7 WEBN FM. Following the end of the Cincinnati Reds game, the game will also air on 700 WLW AM.
