VolleyMob bestowed National Player of the Week honors to the University of Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson as announced by the publication on Tuesday.
Thompson averaged 6.57 kills per set in the three matches while hitting .333 and added in seven service aces. On Saturday against No. 25 Colorado State, Thompson set a new career-high with 31 kills in the four-set victory for the Bearcats, an AAC record. It marked the first time a UC player had thirty or more kills since November 2012. Thompson recorded a double-double in the opening match with 14 digs. In Saturday evening's match against TCU, Thompson totaled 29 kills with 19 digs and two aces. To close out the weekend, Thompson led UC with a new career-high of 32 kills, tying both UC's and the AAC's record for the fourth-most kills in a match. She also had ten digs for her third double-double of the weekend and served up a team-high four aces. Her efforts helped the Bearcats go 3-0 and be champions of the tournament.
Despite being through just two weeks of the season, Thompson has earned numerous honors. She was named the American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year and landed on the Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational all-tournament team and AAC Honor Roll after week one. Most recently, she was the Colorado State Tournament MVP and AAC Offensive Player of the Week.
// NEXT MATCH.
UC remains on the road for another weekend tournament. The Bearcats travel to Duke to take on the host Blue Devils, Coastal Carolina and ETSU on Friday and Saturday.
