// FIRST SERVE
University of Cincinnati volleyball travels for the Duke Invitational this weekend for the third weekend tournament of the season. The Bearcats will open the event by facing the host Blue Devils at noon on Friday. Following that match, UC faces ETSU Friday night at 5 p.m. and finishes with Coastal Carolina on Saturday at noon.

// THE NATION'S BEST
• After a remarkable weekend at Colorado State, Jordan Thompson now leads the country in kills (165), points (180), kills per set (6.11) and points per set 6.67)
• The redshirt-senior was named the Colorado State Tournament MVP and earned American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday
• She added to that list of accolades with VolleyMob National Player of the Week distinction on Tuesday
• Thompson was named the AAC Preseason Player of the Year and earned a spot on the ACC Honor Roll after week one and was on the Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational tournament-team earlier this season
 
// CONFERENCE CORNER
• The Bearcats are tied for the second-best record in the conference currently at 5-1 along with USF
• Houston leads with an 8-0 record while Tulane is close behind at 6-2
• UC ranks third in the AAC in hitting percentage and fourth in service aces
• Individually, Thompson leads in kills and is sixth in hitting percentage
Jade Tingelhoff leads the conference in assists
Maria Mallon ranks seventh in service aces while Thompson and Carly Nolan are tied for ninth in that category
 
// FRESH FACES
• Numerous Bearcats have spent valuable time on the court for the first time in their careers
• Redshirt-sophomore Dasha Cabarkapa has played all 27 sets and leads the team with 0.81 blocks per set in her first year of action
Maria Mallon has played in 22 sets and opened her career with a double-double in the season-opening win against UC Santa Barbara
Armania Heckenmueller has 85 assists in 12 sets played
• Fellow freshmen Hannah Bolinger and Georgia Tselepi have seen time with six and four sets played, respectively
 
// KNOW THE FOE: DUKE
Duke enters the weekend at a 4-2 mark. The Blue Devils dropped their first two matches of the season before winning their last four. Most recently, Duke beat UNCG at home in straight sets. Last weekend, the Blue Devils beat USF 3-1, LSU 3-1 and Texas A&M Corpus Christi in five sets.
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. BLUE DEVILS
Friday will be the first time Cincinnati and Duke have met on the court
 
// KNOW THE FOE: ETSU
ETSU sits at 6-1 with its only loss coming in the second match of the season, a 3-1 defeat at South Carolina. The Bucs beat Tennessee on Tuesday in a thrilling five-set match. They also defeated the AAC's Tulsa 3-0 at a neutral site.
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. BUCCANEERS
Cincinnati is 3-0 all-time against ETSU. The two teams last met in September 2003 with UC winning 3-0. The first meeting ever was a 2-1 victory for the Bearcats back in 1977.
 
// KNOW THE FOE: COASTAL CAROLINA
Coastal Carolina is currently 1-4 on the season. The Chanticleers lost 3-2 at Georgia to start the year then fell 3-0 versus Illinois State. Coastal Carolina's lone win came 3-1 against Furman on August 25. Most recently the team played two matches at Hawaii.

// NEXT UP: HOME SWEET HOME
• UC will play at home for the first time on Friday, September 14
• The Bearcats will host Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. and Indiana at 7 p.m.
• UC will then host Xavier on Alumnae Day at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 15
• Home matches will continue to be played down the road at St. Ursula Academy as Fifth Third Arena renovation wraps up
• The Bearcats are scheduled to be back in Fifth Third Arena on campus on Friday, November 2 for the match with Wichita State
