University of Cincinnati volleyball hosts its first matches of the season this weekend. UC welcomes Eastern Kentucky on Friday at 1 p.m. and Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m. as part of the Queen City Classic. The event ends with a rivalry match between UC and Xavier on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. All matches will be played at St. Ursula Academy down the road from campus on McMillen St.

• The Bearcats continue to receive recognition on a national level
• For the second straight week UC has received votes in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll
• Additionally, Jordan Thompson remains the country's leader in kills, points, kills per set and points per set
• The team currently ranks 29th among all Division I schools in total aces
// CONFERENCE CORNER
• Heading into the final weekend of non-conference action, Cincinnati holds one of the best records in the American Athletic Conference
• At 7-2 overall, UC is tied with Tulsa in third while Houston sits at 11-1 and USF is 8-1
• The Bearcats were selected to finish second in conference play in the preseason coaches' poll with Wichita State, last year's champion, picked to repeat
• The Shockers are currently 4-4 and have also received votes in the national poll
• UC has the second-best hitting percentage in the AAC at .252

• Saturday is alumnae day with all former Bearcats volleyball players welcomed back for special recognition
• There will be a pre-match gathering at St. Ursula Academy at 3 p.m. with food and beverages provided
• After the match with Xaiver, alumnae are invited to attend football's game versus Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. at Nippert Stadium

• UC is coming off its third consecutive winning weekend tournament as the team went 2-1 at the Duke Invitational
• After a 3-0 tournament-opening loss to the host Blue Devils, the Bearcats bounced back to capture five-set victories against both ETSU and Coastal Carolina
• Jordan Thompson and Erica Kostelac were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts in the three-match weekend

EKU sits at 1-8 entering the Queen City Classic. The Colonels dropped their last two matches, 3-2 versus Fordham and, most recently, 3-0 at UNLV. The team's lone win came in a 3-2 victory against Cal State Fullerton on September 7

The Bearcats and Colonels have met a total of 31 times with UC taking 20 of those. The teams last met in 2003 when UC won a home match in straight sets
// KNOW THE FOE: INDIANA
Indiana is 6-2 on the season and is coming off a 3-2 win at Ball State. The Hoosiers' only losses this season came against Texas A&M in straight sets on August 31 and versus Northern Iowa in a 3-1 match last weekend. Indiana ranks seventh in the nation in blocks per set with 2.91.

Cincinnati is 9-8-1 all-time against Indiana. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2008. The Bearcats won that match 3-0 on the road.
