CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati sophomore Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian HS) and senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle HS) each posted Top 15 finishes Sunday while the Bearcats tied for seventh place against a noteworthy field at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge in Simpsonville, Ky.

Osterburg, playing as an individual, matched his career-best three-round score, tying for 10th place at 4-under 70-69-70=209. He posted three of his four birdies on the first six holes and was 3-under through eight holes Sunday. He accounted for 11 birdies and recorded par or better scores on 47 of 54 holes during the event.

Squires completed the event one stroke behind Osterburg at 3-under 67-71-72=210 to tie for 13th place. The result marked Squires' 22nd Top 25 finish in 26 tournaments since the start of sophomore season. He registered a pair of birdies Sunday to give him 11 for the event.

The Bearcats climbed one spot to finish tied for seventh in competitive 16-team field at 285-286-288=859. Sunday's move was sparked by the play of redshirt-freshman Mason Lenhart (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham HS) and senior Paul Huber (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic HS). Lenhart vaulted 21 spots in the 92-player field with a final-round 1-under 70 to finish tied for 27th place at 1-over 71-73-70=214. Huber jumped 17 places after posting an even par 71 for the second consecutive round. He finished the event at 4-over 75-71-71=217.

UC freshman Sam Jean (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) and redshirt-sophomore Andy Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood HS) completed the tournament tied for 65th place. Jean finished at 8-over 73-72-76=221 while Mayhew posted an 8-over 74-72-75=221.

Duke's Alex Smalley claimed medalist honors, leading the tournament from start to finish, with a 16-under 61-66-70=197 result.  The Blue Devils earned the team title in the same fashion via a 37-under 257-277-281=815 score.

// QUOTING HEAD COACH DOUG MARTIN
On UC's performance in Louisville:

"We had a very solid day to wrap up the tournament. I don' think our scores this week were indicative of how well we played. We had difficulties putting and reading the greens this week. They definitely caused us troubles. But coming into this event I thought a Top 5 to Top 7 finish would only happen if we played solid golf. We moved up the standings each day and everyone on the team knows how close we are. We're in a good position going into our home event."

On the individual play of some of the Bearcats:
"Nicolas Osterburg came out and took care of business this week and played like he's capable of playing.

"Paul Huber played a great tournament with 34 par scores and a birdie over his final 36 holes.

"Mason Lenhart hit the ball great all week and he's going to start making more putts soon.

"Austin Squires has been sick all week. He didn't have his best stuff but was still competitive and is close to busting out as well."
