Squires Remains Tied for 11th Place after 36 Holes in Louisville

UC senior Austin Squires remains tied for 11th place Saturday following his even-par 71 performance in second-round action at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle HS) remains tied for 11th place Saturday following his even-par 71 performance in second-round action at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge in Simpsonville, Ky.  

Squires took three consecutive bogies to drop to 2-over through his first seven holes but rebounded with a trio of birdies and seven par scores over his final 11 holes. He enters Sunday's final round at 4-under 67-71=138. Duke's Alex Smalley held onto first place at 15-under 61-66=124. 

Sophomore teammate Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian HS), who is playing as an individual, posted his best round of the fall season a 2-under 69 Saturday to move up 19 places into a tie for 13th at 3-under 70-69=139. His second round included three birdies, 14 par scores and only one bogie.
 
UC redshirt-freshman Mason Lenhart (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham HS) dropped eight places into a tie for 48th place at 2-over 71-73=144. Freshman Sam Jean (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) jumped three spots into a tie for 57th place at 3-over 73-72=145. Redshirt-sophomore Andy Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood HS) and senior Paul Huber (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) are tied for 64th place. Mayhew climbed seven places after registering a 1-over 72 Saturday for a 74-72=146 total while Huber moved up 12 spots after an even-par performance for a two-day total of 75-71=146.

The Bearcats carded a 286 team score on Saturday for a two-day total of 3-over 285-286=571 to climb two spots in the competitive 16-team field, tying Western Kentucky (3-over 277-294=571) for eighth place. Duke, listed No. 17 in the nation according to Golfstat rankings, continues to sit atop the leaderboard at 34-under 257-277=534.
