CINCINNATI – In conjunction with the American Athletic Conference, University of Cincinnati women's basketball announced its complete 2018-19 schedule Thursday.
The Bearcats will play 16 regular-season home games inside newly-renovated Fifth Third Arena, as well as 13 road contests.
"We are excited about our schedule this season and thrilled to share Fifth Third Arena with our fans," Head Coach Michelle Clark-Heard said. "We have some great challenges ahead in our nonconference games which will help prepare us for the always competitive American Athletic Conference. We are going to play an exciting, up-tempo style of basketball which will be fun to watch. I can't wait to see our fans create a true home-court advantage in their new arena."
UC has an exciting home slate in 2018-19, highlighted by the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout against Xavier on Dec. 16 and meetings with 2018 NCAA Tournament teams UConn on Feb. 2 and USF on March 2. The regular season will open against Austin Peay at Fifth Third Arena on Nov. 6.
The Clark-Heard era at UC will begin with a tough, nonconference schedule featuring games against five teams who reached the postseason a year ago.
Following the opener versus Austin Peay on 11/6, the Red & Black will welcome last season's Southern Conference runner-up ETSU to Fifth Third Arena on Nov. 9. Capping its first road swing of the season, UC will visit 2018 WNIT participant Saint Louis on Nov. 18.
After back-to-back home games against Yale (Nov. 21) and Lipscomb (Nov. 24), the Bearcats will have a difficult three-game road stint. They will first visit Ball State -- a team that recorded 25 wins a year ago -- on Nov. 28, then make the short trip up Interstate 71 to battle 2018 Big Ten Champion Ohio State on Dec. 2. The stretch will end with a visit to Miami (OH) – who is fresh off a WNIT berth -- on Dec. 5.
Sandwiched between home contests against VCU (Dec. 7) and Howard (Dec. 21) is the annual matchup against Xavier. The rivalry game will tip off at 2 p.m. ET.
After more than two weeks off over the holidays, AAC action will get underway on Jan. 6 when UC hosts SMU. The Red & Black will then hit the road to visit perennial American Champion and 2018 Final Four team UConn on Jan. 9, followed by a road tilt at UCF on Jan. 13. The Bearcats will then play three of their next four at home: Jan. 16 vs. Temple, Jan. 19 at Tulsa, Jan. 23 vs. Houston, and Jan. 26 vs. Memphis.
Following a visit to 2018 AAC regular-season and tournament runner-up USF on Jan. 30, the Red & Black will welcome UConn on Feb. 2 and a week later host Wichita State on Feb. 10. The Bearcats will then hit the road for three of the next four games: at Memphis (Feb. 13), at Temple (Feb. 17), vs. Tulsa (Feb. 20), and at ECU (Feb. 23).
UC will celebrate Senior Day on March 2 when USF comes to town. The regular season will conclude with a trip to New Orleans to take on Tulane on March 4.
The 2019 American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship will be held March 8-11 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
