CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati football team moved into both the Associated Press and Amway USA Today Coaches Top-25 polls Sunday, on the heels of the program's 6-0 start, its best since 2009.

UC (6-0, 2-0 AAC East), which knocked off Tulane 37-21 on Saturday, sits at No. 25 in both the AP and coaches polls. It is UC's first AP ranking since Oct. 14, 2012 (No. 21) and the first coaches poll since Dec. 1, 2013 (No. 23).

The Bearcats are defeating opponents by an average of 18.4 ppg, which includes home wins over Alabama A&M, Ohio and Tulane and road triumphs at UCLA, Miami (OH) and UConn. UC leads the nation in team passing efficiency defense and ranks among the NCAA FBS Top-10 teams in scoring defense (3), total defense (5), net punting (6) and passing yards allowed (8).

RB Michal Warren II (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) has rushed for 675 yards and 11 touchdowns, equaling UC's team total of 11 rushing TDs from 2017. Warren has rushed for 100 or more yards in each of UC's last three games, the first Bearcats back to do so since Isaiah Pead accomplished the feat in 2010.

Redshirt freshman QB Desmond Ridder (Louisville, Kentucky/St. Xavier) has completed nearly 66 percent of his passes in five starts, throwing for 10 TDs and adding another 315 yards rushing along with four more scores.

TE Josiah Deguara (Folsom, California/Folsom) and WR Kahlil Lewis (Miami, Florida/Mirimar) lead the way with 21 and 18 catches respectively with three touchdowns apiece.

Defensively, DT Cortez Broughton (Warner Robins, Georgia/Veterans) has rung up 11.0 tackles for a loss and 5.0 sacks, surpassing his career numbers prior to the 2018 season. The linebacking corps of Perry Young (Birmingham, Alabama/Spain Park), Bryan Wright (New Castle, Delaware/Jireh Prep) and Malik Clements (Danville, Virginia/George Washington) rank 1-2-3 on the team in tackles with 29, 27 and 26 stops, respectively.

P James Smith (Wangaratta, Australia) ranks No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference averaging 45.0 yards per punt with 11 dropped inside the 20-yard line. UC opponents have returned only 13 kicks for an average of 3.2 yards per return.

UC is off this week, but returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Temple. The Bearcats and Owls kickoff time from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 by the American. The game will air on 700 WLW AM in Cincinnati.
