CINCINNATI - Jill Vetere, a senior on the University of Cincinnati women's soccer team, has been selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season, the conference announced today. Vetere, who also was named the Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season, was selected after netting the tying goal with two seconds remaining in regulation Sunday as the Bearcats grabbed a 1-1 draw with visiting Houston.

Vetere earned her spot on the Honor Roll by netting the lone goal in UC's Sunday draw with the Cougars as she found the back of the net with two seconds remaining in regulation. Trailing 1-0 with under one minute remaining, the Bearcats raced down the field and earned a corner kick with just over 30 seconds remaining. After the ball was swung into the box, it was bounced around several times and came out to Riley Gruenbaum on the side of the 18. She played the ball back toward the middle of the area, only to see the ball hit a defender's arm and a penalty kick awarded with four seconds remaining on the clock. Vetere took the spot kick and sent a low shot on goal, but the UH goalkeeper, Rachel Estopare, made the save, deflecting the ball back into play. That block, however, came directly back to Vetere, who slotted her shot into the back of the net with two seconds left on the clock to tie the match and force overtime. Vetere's goal is tied for the second-latest in regulation in program history and the latest in regulation since head coach Neil Stafford took over in 2013.

Her first honor came on August 27 when she was named to the Honor Roll after assisting on the game-winner against Wright State in a 2-0 victory before scoring the overtime winner in the Riverboat Rivalry match with Northern Kentucky in a 1-0 decision. Three weeks later (September 17), Vetere earned her second accolade of the season as she was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week. That award came on the heels of two wins at home over Lipscomb and LSU, both of which were 2-1 decisions for UC after it trailed 1-0 each time. Vetere's corner kick led to the tying goal and her pass to Sophie Gorman in overtime the winning goal against LU before she chipped in a goal to tie the match with LSU before assisting on the winner as well.

// ADDING TO THE HAUL
So far this year, four Bearcats have earned placement on the weekly Honor Roll with Vetere's second honor of the year giving UC five total Honor Roll awards. She is joined by Dee Picou (Sept. 24), the 17th different UC player to earn Honor Roll honors in program history, with that group collecting 39 total awards including Vetere's honor this week. Vetere's selection this week also brings UC's total to nine awards earned in 2018 from the AAC, a list that includes four players of the week, including Vetere (Sept. 17) for offensive, Claudia Eustaquio (Sept. 10) and Madison Less (Sept. 17) for goalkeeper and Brandi Thomsen (Aug. 20) for rookie honors.
