CINCINNATI – The American Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon its weekly honors with University of Cincinnati junior forward Rex Epps selected as Offensive Player of the Week.

Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) earned the award after totaling seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) as the Bearcats went 2-0 last week.

In his Gettler Stadium debut on Sept. 26, the newcomer scored a pair of first-half goals and tallied an assist to lead his team to a 3-1 win over IUPUI. Epps wasted no time in his first UC start, scoring a goal just two minutes into the match. Minutes later, he scored the game winner in the 10th minute. In the 23rd minute, the forward dished out an assist on an Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) score. Epps followed with the match-winning goal in the sixth minute in a 1-0 shutout of Temple on Saturday, Sept. 29, in UC's home AAC opener.

The transfer has proven to be a much-needed spark for the Bearcats over the past week. Epps had three shots on goal in his Red & Black debut at Memphis on Sept. 23 and followed with seven points over two games. The junior forward transferred to UC after two years at Army West Point. At Army, Epps led the Black Knights in goals (8), points (20) and shots (61), en route to 2017 All-Patriot League Second Team and Second Team All-Northeast Region honors as a sophomore. As a freshman, he led Army with 22 points, 11 goals, and five game-winning goals, garnering College Soccer News All-Freshman Third Team and All-Patriot League Third Team accolades. Epps is an Army veteran who will participate in the Army ROTC at UC.

Epps' accolade marks UC's second weekly league recognition this season after Moritz Schaller (Austria/Vienna University) was picked for the Honor Roll on Sept. 3. The last Bearcat to win AAC Offensive Player of the Week was Sean Clarke on Sept. 18, 2017.
